Domotics or Home Automation refers to the process of automating a home, commonly known as a smart home or smart house. This system observes and controls various aspects of a home, including but not limited to, climate, lighting, entertainment systems, and appliances. It also features home security systems such as alarm systems and access control. Home devices, when connected to the Internet, play a crucial role in the Internet of Things (“IoT”). A centralized hub or “gateway” connects controlled devices, while a user interface regulates the system via wall-mounted terminals, desktop or tablets, mobile applications, or web-based interfaces, which can be remotely accessible via the Internet. Although there are numerous rival vendors, recent attempts to embrace open-source systems have emerged. Despite this, the current state of home automation exhibits several issues, including a lack of standardized security measures and discontinuing backwards compatibility with older devices.
